Now that the dust has settled on my dad’s long battle, I thought this was the time to share this:
In February 2024, my dad underwent open heart surgery and, unfortunately, experienced nearly every complication imaginable afterward. He battled respiratory and kidney failure and fought like the absolute tough guy he was for roughly 10 1/2 months. Throughout this difficult journey, my dad spent approximately 16 weeks as an inpatient at St. Joseph Hospital, and during that time, Dr. Beata Kisiel served as his nephrologist.
Truthfully, I have never met a physician who demonstrated such a profound level of care—not just for the patient, but for the patient’s family as well. Dr. Kisiel went above and beyond to ensure I fully understood my dad’s kidney issues, her treatment goals, and the path she hoped his recovery would take. She explained everything with such clarity and compassion that I never felt lost or confused, even in the most overwhelming moments.
What truly set Dr. Kisiel apart was her genuine dedication. She knew my schedule and made it a point to speak with me each day she was at the hospital. I’ll never forget the day she came rushing into my dad’s room, out of breath, just to make sure she didn’t miss me. That moment perfectly captured who she is—not just a brilliant physician, but a deeply human one.
Dr. Kisiel shared personal stories to comfort and reassure me, and she treated us like family. Of all the healthcare professionals we encountered, she had the greatest impact on both my father’s care and my ability to manage tough decisions as his advocate. I will never be able to thank her enough—for what she did medically for my dad, and for what she did emotionally for me.
