- Michael R. DeHaan, MD is a highly regarded general surgeon with more than 20 years of experience specializing in dialysis access vascular surgery. He performs minimally invasive AV fistula creation for dialysis patients. Dr. DeHaan earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship in general surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center, Chicago, and completed a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery Mini Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University. A highly skilled surgeon, Dr. DeHaan completed the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Training in Chicago and trained in AV Access Education at the Dialysis Access Institute in South Carolina. Dr. DeHaan lectures extensively and was awarded the American Academy of Family Physicians Excellence in Teaching Award and was name recipient of the Patient’s Choice Award for Outstanding Surgical Techniques. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. DeHaan is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
